Halfminx - May 2012
The Halfminx is a transformation of the Megaminx Puzzle, designed and first made by puzzler builder Aleh Hladzilin in 2009. The puzzle is made by chopping a Megaminx in half diagonally; leaving only three of the twelve faces intact. This gives the new puzzle; one large Hexagonal face, three Triangular faces and three functional Pentagonal faces. As the puzzle is not bandaged on any of its functioning faces, it still solves like a Megaminx.

Making the puzzle was really straight forward; with one cut being made that ran through the Megaminx’s diagonal centre, a small amount of sanding was required and a cap was made from 1mm plastic sheet to cover the large Hexagonal face created from the cut. There were some small gaps between the join of the cap and the puzzle, which I filled with expoxy putty and then sanded flat. I also cut all the stickers by hand from sheets of vinyl adhesive.

In August 2012, I made some new stickers for the puzzle so as to match those of Aleh's original. I also gave the puzzle a new coat of spray paint.
